UNDERGROWTH
Nemonymous 7 (Zencore!)

**What difference did Nemo make?**
Nemo: an omen. My story “Undergrowth”, chosen by Des for Zencore, relates how an ardent young book collector seeks for a book of that title which is very scarce. Such is the potency of the Nemonymous sorcery, that not long after, a copy of “Undergrowth” did indeed come into my possession. How hard it is for books long-sought to sustain the virtues they acquired while they remained elusive: yet not in this case. The opening lines alone were worth the wait: “The other night as I turned out of Soho Square into the end of Greek Street, past the house of the Opium Eater, a little gust of wind, wandering in the dark, whisked about my feet a shovelful of fallen leaves which the roadman had collected into the gutter…”. When the narrator then enters a café where there is a fat man with a beard like an Assyrian king, and a young girl in black velvet…well, then, I knew that causing my character and his story to manifest in Zencore had also caused - very much more.

**How am I getting on?**
I am getting on with a lot. Superstition stops me saying just what, until it has come to pass. But being in Zencore last year was a great inspiration and blessing. Thanks, Des.
